Proudly Australian Owned & Operated Since 1946
Duralex is a proudly Australian family owned and operated company which was formed in 1946 and was derived from the word "Durable". The founder Lou Miranda then aged 21 years, had been employed as a trainee chemist for a major paint manufacturer. At that time water based paints were not very satisfactory and therefore unpopular.
Almost every surface coating contained organic solvents, with white and red lead being the norm. He felt there had to be a better, more environmental way at a time when little if any thought was given to pollution. He chose the field of water based paints which was then unexplored, to pioneer many of today’s developments.

Duralex has produced many Australian and world firsts in the development of acrylic paints. One example was in 1960 when Duralex introduced the first GLOSS ACRYLIC PAINT. This ‘world first’ developed after many years of research by Duralex was confirmed as a world breakthrough by such bodies as the Society of British Paint Manufacturers, the National Paint, Varnish and Lacquer Association, Washington USA, and the Canadian Paint and Lacquer Association.
Duralex produces high quality paint at affordable prices. All products are low odour and low in VOC (Volatile Organic Compounds) and are tintable to most colours. Company resources are reinvested in the products and not in expensive advertising. All products are manufactured in Australia and meet or exceed Australian Standards. By maintaining consistent quality in the manufacturing process and through sound management systems Duralex has achieved NATA Laboratory Accreditation, ISO 9001:2000 Quality Management Accreditation and APAS manufacturing facilitation.
